A hand-woven wall hanging or ‘flag of place"‘ made of local plants collected from shorelines and gardens in the area surrounding my home.  Everything taken from its source of life withers and dies, and so this work is ephemeral and will be returned to nature to reseed and begin life again.

The work seeks to highlight the importance of our Australian flora and of our environment. It seeks to challenge the notion of Anthropocentrism, highlighting the importance of plants, the environment, our impact on the planet and all life forms which exist upon it.  This flora is older than language and our presence on this planet, it was here first.  This flag was made with foraged plants, which I weaved and braided together with my hands and is bound with grasses and driftwood. The grasses were soaked in water to make them malleable and then woven as is the traditional way.  This ancient tradition of weaving is also older than language and speaks of the connection we have with the land and it flora, and of its importance.
